AUSTIN (KXAN) – The Texas House voted 121-23 in favor of impeaching Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton Saturday.“We will not tolerate corruption, bribery and abuse of power,” Rep. Andrew Murr, R-Junction, said in the closing statements of the impeachment proceedings. The House had to decide whether there was sufficient evidence to justify going to an impeachment trial. Now that the House has voted to approve the articles of impeachment, the matter will go to the Senate. The House General Investigating Committee laid out 20 articles of impeachment to the House members Thursday night. The 20 articles, or accusations, are the result of a two-month investigation that began after Paxton’s proposal emerged to use state funds to settle a $3.3 million whistleblower lawsuit filed by four former employees who accused him of wrongdoing. The House General Investigating Committee called up the articles enumerated in House Resolution 2377 on Saturday at 1 p.m. for the House’s consideration. Yes, roster reinforcements will be coming in the near days and weeks, manager Rocco Baldelli acknowledged Friday night after a sleepy loss. But no, that’s not his focus. His focus was on the group of players who were active and healthy and what they would do to help the Twins win Saturday’s game. And Saturday, a group of hitters, who were given a chance as a result of some of the Twins’ recent injuries, did just that, spurring the team to a 9-7 win on Saturday afternoon at Target Field.Willi Castro, who has seen his role increase over the past few weeks, had three hits, including a pair of home runs. Forest Lake’s Matt Wallner, up with Max Kepler and Trevor Larnach on the injured list, went 4 for 4 with an outfield assist, socking his first home run of the season. And French-Canadian Edouard Julien, playing in place of the injured Jorge Polanco, had three extra-base hits — two doubles and a home run — against his childhood team.Castro and Wallner went back-to-back in the fifth inning...Halfmoon Farmer's Market moving to Abele Park

Workers have had the advantage over employers in recent years—for the first time in about two decades. The presence of more job openings than unemployed people has meant many businesses have had to offer higher pay, better benefits, and other perks to draw in workers. On average, private sector wages increased 4.3% in the year from March 2022 to March 2023. That wage increase was outpaced by inflation, which rose 5% in that same period, though it is slowing. In April, inflation was slightly lower, at 4.9%.Among the most lucrative fields for workers have been industries that bounced back from the coronavirus pandemic, top among them the travel and energy sectors.International travel in 2022 reached 63% of the level in 2019—the year before the pandemic began—and global tourism is expected to improve even more in 2023, though economic uncertainty could change that projection. As far as energy, restrictions on businesses reduced demand during the pandemic. But demand returned to pre-pande...Severe thunderstorm watch posted for northeast Colorado

Captain Kangaroo has left the building and Dirty Harry has arrived at the Broncos Headquarters.— Scott, LittletonKiz: The vibe inside Broncos HQ has changed dramatically, as anyone who has worked with Sean Payton and Nathaniel Hackett can attest. Whenever Payton talks, I hear Bill Parcell’s voice. There’s an old-school, no-guff-allowed edge to his words. Hackett was eager to explain the why of every decision to those under his leadership. The new coach demands that players, staffers and media alike prove why anything should be done one iota differently from how Prickly Payton sees fit.The new Broncos regime has a style that quarterback Russell Wilson wanted to leave in Seattle. But NFL players have mostly liked to play for Sean Payton, right? On the other hand, when the old boss leaves everything a disorganized mess, the new boss always looks like the villain when instilling discipline.— Winston, Great Northwest residentKiz: Pete Carroll was good for a young,...Oakland A’s GM on historically bad start, if the coaches’ jobs are safe, and the Vegas distraction

OAKLAND – The Oakland A’s are on pace to lose 131 games — a mark not seen in Major League Baseball since the 19th century.Among big league teams, the A’s, going into Saturday, had the worst ERA, the worst batting average, and one of the worst defenses by fielding percentage. Oh, and the A’s appear to be nearing relocation, leaving the city and the obsolete stadium they’ve called home for the last 55 years. As the general manager of the team with the lowest team payroll in MLB, David Forst might have had modest expectations for his club in 2023. But one-third of the way through a historically bad year, Forst remains at a bit of a loss to explain how it’s all gone off the rails in what is shaping up to be the most dreadful season in the franchise’s 123-year history.“It’s hard to describe how things have gone,” Forst said Saturday at the Coliseum before the A’s played the Houston Astros. “This is not what anybody imagined. It’s frankly hard to explain. It’s a little bi...Latest news
