Long waits, few providers and coverage gaps: inside Texas Medicaid program for children with disabilities AUSTIN (Nexstar) — A March study on Texas Medicaid revealed a host of issues affecting access to healthcare for some of the state's most vulnerable children.The study, commissioned by non-profit Protect TX Fragile Kids, evaluted families who receive care for their children under the Texas STAR Kids program. It's Medicaid-managed care for children and adults under the age of 20 with disabilities. Cheryl Lingenfelter's 10-year-old son Nathan is 100% dependent on her and caregivers after an anoxic brain injury left him with severe disabilities. His healthcare is covered under the STAR Kids program, but Lingenfelter said it's been a challenge finding Nathan the care he needs because of how the program operates."Finding a good medical support team has been crucial in keeping him alive," she said. 2 young swimmers rescued in Duluth after being swept down swollen river DULUTH, Minn. — Two boys, ages 13 and 14, who were swimming in the swollen Lester River on Wednesday afternoon were swept away by the stream’s powerful current and took a trip over a small waterfall before managing to scramble atop an island.Passersby quickly reported that the boys were stranded midstream, with raging water making it impossible for them to reach shore.
